Crossley Sanatorium is built primarily using red stock bricks; the same bricks synonymous with other buildings in Cheshire and Greater Manchester.  Rising to over 480 feet, the central elevation features a timber copula that once housed a warning bell and air raid siren.  The front facade of the main building once featured a further eight balconies that served the first and second floors, positioned between the bay window blocks, the stairwell blocks and main administrative block.  These balconies were removed when the hospital was modernised in the 1960s.
